I had a problem: I just had to find my password of a PDF document that I had forgotten. Obviously I had the idea to try one of the many password recovery programs that are around the net ... I had no idea of \u200b\u200bbeing able to find the monster of decryption and use it comfortably in my home! I'm talking about
ElcomSoft Distributed Password Recovery . An object that the word "distributed" I guess it did something about his power ... In practice, this program is not only optimized for computers with many processors, but is specifically designed to exploit the computing power of processors and GPU of an entire network of PCs connected in a LAN. The program includes a server which coordinates the work program and an "agent" to be installed on machines that run the calculations.
The calculation speed is appalling, and proportional to the number of PCs that have at their disposal, to give a concrete example: I tried it in my house over the wireless network of 3 pc and i got these results, which I never imagined . Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2140 @ 1,60 GHz: ~
of 3.5 million passwords per second Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3200 2.00 GHz @: ~ 2.2 million passwords per second AMD Sempron @ 999 MHz: ~ 
0.78 million passwords per second
Leaving work these machines were tested about 6.5 million
of passwords per second.
The bad news is that the Acrobat standard encryption uses a 40-bit key. A 40-bit key means that there may be two
40 = 1,099,511,627,776 possible keys. In this case, dividing the number of possible keys for my speed test, you get:
1099E +9 / +6 = E 6.5 ~ 169000 seconds.
It 's a very small time! There are about 47 hours!
why I could not find my password in no time, but at this point to wonder why I be notified of use it, so who has some computers available in a few days or less can easily find it!
